Inspiration

I find the strength and character of the wood within a tree to use for my furniture.

It began in the early 1990s. As an owner and operator of a tree-care company, I saw beautiful old oak trees that were being used for nothing more than firewood. I wanted to give these trees a second life and preserve the character and beauty of these old trees by using the trunks and limbs for something useful. Then one day I got a call to look at a giant historical oak tree in Westlake Village, California, that needed to be removed. I was saddened knowing that the majestic old oak was to be lost. As I began to take down the tree, I noticed sections that could be created into coffee tables and milled into structures that would be admired as works of art. I took the old limbs and trunk, stripped off the bark, and cured the wood. From there I made my first pieces of furniture using the strength and character of the old tree. I was inspired that I could give old trees new life.
